Tales From The Trails:

Local Artist Gabriel Liston Creates Graphic Series of the History of Forest Park

Gabriel Liston is an artist, illustrator and researcher living in St Johns. His 2014 exhibition, Get All That Is Coming To You, at NW Portland's Froelick Gallery explored the old ditches and lost stories of Lafe Pence's 1906 sluicing of Willamette Heights and Guild's Lake. His Fall 2018 exhibit, Above and Below The Flood, will look at the larger play between the Tualatin Ridge and the Confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.

The images below are the first in an illustrated series of shared walks into and around Forest Park. As Gabriel states: "I'm an artist looking for insight into the science and culture of the Tualatin Ridge and the wetlands below. I have questions about the geological forces at work and how as humans we respond to or deny them." The illustrations below represent the first walk he took was with FPC volunteer and local archaeologist, Chris Knutson as part of this series. They explored the area off of Ridge Trail, near the St. Johns Bridge. Look for more from Gabriel and plan to see his show at the Froelick Gallery in September!
